Landscape and wildlife from Washington
Located in the Olympic peninsula of Washington State lies the Ho Rainforest. This is home to giant mossy trees and been awarded the distinction of being a World Heritage Site and a Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO. Moss is an epiphyte, which is a plant that grows on another plant without harming it (as opposed to a parasite). Epiphytes get their moisture and nutrients from the air, rain, fog, and debris that accumulates around them. I took this shot as it looked like something out of a fairytale. The moss covered tree perfectly going over the walkway through the rainforest.
The Ho Rainforest in Washington lies within Olympic National Park. It is sought out by tourists who want to see the famous mossy trees and the enchantment of the rainforest. You can walk through the Hall of Moss and be surrounded by gigantic trees and all sorts of flora. I was lucky that the sun was peering in from all angles to be able to get this shot between the moss and forest floor plants.
Ho Rainforest has many types of tree such as, Sitka Spruce, Western Red Cedar, Douglas Fir, and Western Hemlock. These trees can grow unto 300ft tall, and when covered with moss makes them look even more spectacular. I loved the way the sun shone down on the moss as I scrambled through the forest getting shots of the mossy trees.
The Ho Rainforest holds one of the largest temperate rainforests in America. Spruce and Hemlock trees dominate the landscape, with mosses enveloping around them, such as spikedmoss which can be seen draped over maple trees in the trail known as the Hall of Mosses. This forest felt like a fairytale walking through. The trees where humongous and there was such an eerie vibe.
One of the largest attractions to Olympic National Park is Ruby Beach. It's famed for its glorious sunsets and rainforest coastline. It is the northern part of the coastline in Washington and goes on for several miles. Walking into this sunrise on Ruby Beach, Olympic National Park is a core memory I will never forget. Part of the Pacific NorthWest which is one of my favourite destinations i've ever visited.
Ruby beach is a beautiful section of coastline in Olympic National Park. With the beautiful rock formations and sun kissed driftwood, scattered across the pebble shoreline. I wanted to visit this beach for sunset to get images like this. I didn't quite expect it to be so breathtaking in person, but id go back on a heartbeat.
Ruby beach in Olympic National Park, located on the Pacific Northwest. Stone lined beaches sitting off the rainforest, has ruby like stones in the pebbles, giving it its famous name. This shot was taken as the sun was going down. The sea stacks were to my right but I noticed how beautiful the sunset looked with the rainforest and moon.
A golden sunset in the North West Pacific just hits differently. The rock formations at Ruby Bech is why it's famous, giving such amazing views out in the ocean. Located in Olympic National Park This shot was taken on the rocky shoreline of Ruby Beach in Washington, USA. This is one of my favourite shots with the sun glowing on the Rocky formations while long exposure gave that milky seawater look.
Olympic National Park has many beauty spots, especially up the coastal side. Ruby beach sits at the northern point of this wonderful part the Pacific North West. Tourists and locals flock here every night to watch the colours of the sunset. The iconic sea stacks make great silhouettes during a glowing sunset I used a long exposure on this image to give the silky appearance of the rolling waves in the sea. Sitting here watching this sunset was one of my favourite parts of this trip
The rock formations at Ruby beach in Washington rise out of the sandy shoreline formed after years of erosion. They give this beach lots of character in Olympic National Park. This shot was captured just after the sunset when the rising moon positioned perfectly above the rocky formations in the sea sea in Olympic National Park. This shot was taken before a flood of fog came in to cover the whole beach. This coastline is majestical.
in the state of Washington, just West off Seattle is Olympic National Park. This area of outstanding beauty holds some of the most amazing scenery. This shot was taken at Ruby Beach. I sat here and watched the sunset before taking in the night sky. Fog is quickly swarmed in from the sea not long after I took this photo and the visibility was gone! It was a little creepy but a really rememberable experience.
Ruby Beach in Olympic National Park, located in the Pacific Northwest of America. The coastal forest brings you out to this stunning beach, which is covered in driftwood and amazing rock formations. The fog made visibility poor really quickly after sunset but made for a nice moody shot.
Mt. Rainer National Park has beauty around every bend. Hiking and driving around this park is full of unforgettable moments and beautiful landscape lookouts with mountains and luscious forests. I took this shot after driving up to some lookout spots. The haze covered the mountains which gave a nice composition for the shot.
Hiking around this mountain was breathtaking, simply due to how perfect it was and the history of it. This active stratvolcano stands 14,410ft tall and is surrounded by a temperate rainforest and so much wildlife. It is the most glaciated peak in the USA, with 5 rivers flowing from it. This shot was taken when I visited a lake that i knew I wanted to visit to get the reflection I desired.
14,410 feet above sea level, Mount Rainier stands as a main point of the Washington landscape. Subalpine wildflower meadows surround the icy volcano while ancient forest flood Mount Rainier’s lower slopes. I went on some hiking trails by the visitor centre and this view was beautiful looking opposite from the volcano. The trees and colours really caught my eye. There were also plenty of deer munching the grasses around this area.
Golden-mantled Ground Squirrel in the subalpine region of Mt. Rainier These rodents have stripes on their backs like a chipmunk however golden-mantled ground squirrels don’t have stripes on the face and are larger. They eat a variety of green vegetation, as well as seeds, fungi, and insects. This shot was taken infront of the astounding Mount Rainer. Standing in the right place at the right time.
A Golden Mantled Ground squirrel, residing in Mount Rainer National Park. They are quite common in this area and seem to have acclimatised to human activity on the hiking routes near Mount rainier. I got this portrait shot of one sitting just below the famous mountain. I couldn't quite believe how cute they are in person.
