Greenland has the most beautiful scenery, seeing the icebergs was mesmerising. The ocean was so still, giving a perfect reflection. This shot was taken in Ilulissat under the midnight sun.
I took this shot in Ilulissat on a hiking route. These young pups were braving the snow in the freezing temperatures of Greenland. Curious yet wary, these Greenlandic puppies will grow up to be sled dogs just like their mother. The snow made for a perfect portrait.
From the top of an iceberg, the view is quite something else. To get this shot I sent my drone up so I could get a good image of the icy formations that were quite far away from me. The drone allows me to get shots I never could on foot. Greenland has some of the best photographic opportunities of anywhere I’ve been in the world. The arctic landscape is always my most desirable.
This amazing iceberg lies in Disko Bay, Greenland. Famous for their icebergs and beautiful landscapes. I captured this while on a midnight boat trip. The sun here never sets in the summer months so it’s light all night long. This iceberg looked dominant towards the little 'bergy bits'.
Dikso Bay, Ilulissat, Greenland. One of the many iceberg shots I got on this boat trip, but this one I found was unique as there was a shelf under the iceberg with icicles hanging over the edge of the water. Only 10% of the iceberg is visible above ocean, which is crazy when you see ones that look enormous.
This was one of my favourite icebergs I saw when sailing in Disko Bay on an icebreaker boat. The sound of the icebergs crashing against the sides of the boat was quite intimidating at first, but as the sailing went on I knew the boat was able, and built to, cut through the ice. It was a truly magical experience.
I took this shot while in Ilulissat looking in amazement at the Icefjord UNESCO world heritage site. Situated by the coastal town, the icebergs gracefully glide by in all their glory. I took a shot of the iceberg peaks that had cracked over time, these will split eventually into smaller icebergs.
This portrait was taken in Greenland during a heavy blizzard, this beautiful beast stood posing in the snow storm. You wouldn’t believe this is their summer! The Greenlandic people actually say the weather there is more like global cooling !
Ilulissat's Disko Bay. In the Greenlandic summer time, you are certain to see icebergs making their way through the Atlantic Ocean. Each one has unique carvings which alter as the icebergs melt and break away. If you’re lucky enough you will see ice calving, even the smallest chunk will make the loudest noise echoing through the ice fjord.i loved the carving in the ice that have created natural little caves.
The coastal town of Ilulissat, brightly coloured houses overlooked by enormous icebergs as they pass through in the famous Disko Bay. It is a completely different way of life here, far away from the fast paced hustle and bustle, this town is quaint and fascinating. They rely heavily on fishing here for their own food, and most dishes out in restaurants are fish based cuisine. I took this shot to show what an amazing view these little houses have everyday, and how tiny they are compared to the large lumps of ice passing.
During a midnight sun boat trip around Disko Bay, we got to this point and the whole seascape was covered in tiny lumps of ice. These are known as 'bergy bits'. These have calved off the large icebergs which is a natural part of the process.
Taken from from a drone, this shot allowed me to capture the beauty of the icebergs up close and personal, and allow a different vision of the icebergs that would never be caught without the aid of a flying camera. The delicacy of the ice formations is really shown, along with the vast fjord of icebergs at the UNESCO world heritage site in Ilulissat.
Exploring Greenland and all its beauty was the highlight of 2023. I’d go back here in a heartbeat. Nature is an amazing thing and I’m lucky to have witnessed the wonders of this special country. This image was captured with my drone from a height which enabled me to get a wide view of the icejord in Ilulissat.
This large ferry is the only passenger ferry in Greenland. Carrying 238 passengers and complete with bedrooms for all. The ferry can only begin journeys in the spring months but offers an alternative to flying. I thought the contrast of the red ferry against the ice and the winter landscape was quite unusual. There are opportunities to spot whales and seals on your journey aboard this arctic ship.
The wonders of Disko Bay off the shoreline of Ilulissat. You can do a hike around the perimeter of the icefjord and take in the beauty all the way up to the colourful houses perched with the best views over the bay. I took this shot towards the end of the hike. with icebergs following you as you walk, it really is a beautiful place to be.
The midnight sun, caped in rain clouds over the ice flowing through Disko Bay in Ilulissat. The midnight sun means that it's daylight all day long, but there is a sunset glow to the sky. I loved the contrast in this image of the darkness and the sky glowing above the icebergs.
