Landscapes and wildlife from around the picturesque mountain country of Canada. From the rainforests of Vancouver to the Rocky Mountains across British Columbia and Alberta.
Joffre Lakes Provincial Park in British Columbia. This is one of my favourite images of this lake and also the image that was a finalist in The Nature Conservancy global photography competition. I sat here eating lunch after the hard hike up, which was such a rewarding view.
The three sisters mountain in Canmore, Alberta is well known for its beauty and stand out features. Previously known as the three nuns due to their appearance with snowy peaks, it was later renamed in 1866. Canmore borders Banff National Park and is a beautiful mountain town that looks even more spectacular in the snow. On my trip to Canada I wanted to photograph this mountain again from this angle at sunrise but only had one morning that was going to be the best conditions. I was extremely lucky of a heavy snow storm the day before which made my shot even more unique. I couldn’t stop staring at how beautiful it looked inbetween taking shots
Lake Louise is one of the most famous lakes in the world. Adored due to its beauty and colour which is present because of glacial rock flour that has corroded. The lake is visited by millions every year and hosts a variety of hikes and outstanding landscape.
A road trip through the snowy mountain roads of Canada. This shot was taken after driving though Yoho National Park, we aimed to go and see Takakkaw Falls but due to the weather conditions the road was closed for safety. Nevertheless this road provided some great opportunities for photography in the recent snowfall.
In Jasper National Park there are certain areas of habitat that the elusive moose are easier to find. I actually spotted this bull on the roadside, posing perfectly for my shot by Maligne Lake.
Bear Creek Falls is located in British Columbia, Alberta. This extremely powerful waterfall is nestled in an enchanting aspen and conifer filled forest. A steep hike brings you to out to this impressive view within the mountains. The most gave such a mood for this shot as I wanted to portray the feeling of the atmosphere here in the wild Rockies.
Glacier National Park in British Columbia has epic landscapes and when combined with moody autumnal atmospheres and snowfall is beautiful. Complete with active glaciers, enormous peaks and major cave systems this part of Canada and the Canadian Rockies really stands out. I hiked areas in Rodger’s Pass and came across these magnificent views. Just a short walk down from the ‘Meeting of the waters’ hike, this river looked as thought it was a direct pathway to the mountain. It really made for a great shot, communicating the feeling of being enveloped in nature.
Frozen landscapes in Yoho, Canada. This lake looked such a beaming blue against the contrast of the snowy landscapes.
Magical snow caped woodland in Canada. After taking some images down by the river I decided to take a little walk through the forest as it looked so pretty. I journeyed down this small pathway leading through the Fir trees and it felt very magical.
Snowfall in the Rocky Mountains in Banff, Canada. /this image was taken on the roadside leading to Jasper National park. This highway is my favourite. There's always wildlife along this road and each trip is so different due to the weather conditions in the mountains. I took this image looking out to the snowy peaks during our long road trip.
The sun peeping through the pines at Lake Moraine, Banff. This is one of the most famous lakes in Canada and now one of the most difficult to access. This image was taken on my most recent trip. No matter how many times you see this lake in person it always gives the ‘wow factor’.
Natural archway made by the snow dusted pine trees at Peyto Lake. I was walking to the viewpoint at Peyto and this archway really took me by surprise at how beautiful it was. Nature is truly amazing and I'm glad I managed to capture this perfectly.
The ever-changing atmosphere in the Canadian Rockies brings a lot of opportunity for different compositions. This image is actually shot at Lake Louise. I arrived early and the fog was coating the forests, giving an eerie feel.
The dancing Aurora Borealis by the Milky Way in Banff National Park. It almost looks like a forest on fire with the northern lights dancing above. I was on the way back from jasper when I first caught a glimpse of this amazing display. After getting back to Banff I quickly changed clothing and went out for the night chasing different locations to get a variety of images.
An American red squirrel in the Canadian rockies was rolling some nesting material into a ball ready to take to the den for the winter. This nesting material was actually used to help new tree saplings grow.
The breathtaking beauty of the Canadian Rockies in the winter. The magic of snow-capped mountains, frozen lakes, and stunning vistas makes this place my favourite. The turquoise Lake Louise looks even better with a dusting of snow.
Maligne Lake in Jasper National Park is the largest natural lake in the Canadian Rocky Mountains. The unfrozen lake was perfect for capturing the reflection if the trees standing tall. I love this lake, it's great to hike around and peaceful in the winter months.
Kootenay National Park, British Columbia, Canada has some beautiful hikes. The Paint Pots walk takes you through this winding forest. It started snowing when I arrived, and slowly the snow was changing the landscape. I loved the way the path was riding through the forest, paving a way through the forest.
These jagged peaks in the Canadian Rockies are accessible by a very steep incline hike from Lake Louise, Banff. Up here there’s nothing but the sound of the wind zipping through the mountain tops and the chirping of native birds
Peyto Lake in the winter snow. The lake is actually shaped as a wolf if you look closely you can see the head at the top. With the turquoise colour coming from the ground rock flour from calving glaciers, this lake is famed for its beautiful striking colours. This lake can sometimes be difficult to get to if the snowfall is really thick.
The aurora lighting up the landscape in Banff at lake Minnewanka. When I went to capture this image there were so many cars parked by the lake I was worried the headlights would cause unnecessary light pollution but that wasn't the case.
The Fenland Trail in Banff, Canada. This walk along the creekside is a hidden beauty. Walking along the pathway, woven through the forests and met with wooden bridges and plenty of wildlife, it's not one to miss. Old-growth spruce trees make up the forest here, with fell'd logs lining the river making perfect habitat for beavers.
A shooting star in the night Skys of Canada, above Johnson Lake in Banff. I was stood by this lake taking pictures of the aurora behind me, but looked ahead and saw how beautiful this lake looked in the dark Skys, so turned to take a shot of the sky here and luckily caught the shooting star in the centre of my piece.
Waterfowl lakes reflecting Mount Chephren, located in the Mistaya River Valley, Canada. This view is readily seen the Icefield Parkway road from Banff to Jasper. I always stop at this lake and it’s one of my favourites. This image was snapped in the early morning when the waters were still and reflecting like a glass mirror. Later on I drove back past this lake and it was rippling in the wind with no reflection at all so I was quite stoked I managed to get this earlier
Banff is home to beautiful scenery at every turn. This is an image I captured when were were driving around in the morning after looking for wildlife post sunrise. We were set on our way and I noticed this beautiful meadow. We stopped the car and I got out and saw this mountain in the background, making a perfect focal point for this image.
Hiking the Canadian Rockies brings beautiful sightings such as this Bull Elk. I was hiking around Johnson Lake, Banff and a gang of elk were very close to the path. I managed to slowly walk by, taking a few shots as I did. They were watchful but carried on eating the vegetation undisturbed.
Wild, mountainous and forest rich landscapes are my go to, a place to feel balanced again. Hearing nothing but the abundance of nature is purifying for the soul. Joffre Lakes in Whistler offers the most amazing scenery. The hike is quite strenuous but it is so worth it
One of the jaw dropping views from the lakeside of Lake Emerald in Yoho National Park, Alberta, Canada. This lake is renown for its bright colours caused by glacial silt. It offers a hike that entrails the lake, whereby views of the craggy peaks can be enjoyed.
Beautiful bright colours of the aurora and the Milky Way in the Canadian Rockies. I caught these northern lights by surprise on a trip to Canmore back from Jasper National Park, we parked up and couldn't believe how strong they projected across the night sky, dancing above the mountains.
Snowkissed Lodgepole pine’s on the Bow Valley Parkway in Banff, Alberta. This wildlife route winds through different habitat giving drivers the chance to spot some of Canada much loved wildlife. From Moose Meadows to flowing rivers and thick forest, there’s plenty to look at. Driving through here recently I managed to spot a Snowshoe Hare, running like wildfire and before I knew it a Pine Martin flew past, obviously trying his luck for his next meal. The hare was far too fast !
Emerald Lake in Yoho is probably one of my favourite places to photograph when we take a trip to Alberta, Canada. This lake is surrounded by large mountain peaks which make the effort of finding the perfect spot rather effortless. The lovely colours provide a great contrast with the sky, especially on a sunny day like this day. I seem to get lucky with the weather here each time I visit, perfect for taking a canoe out on the lake!
Maligne lake in Jasper national park is even more stunning in winter. A large tree has managed to adapt to the environment beautifully. Moose frequent this area, and when I came here to see the lake I saw bull moose trekking through the snow, trying to forage what plants can be found.
Yoho National Park, British Columbia, is home to some of the most jaw dropping scenery in the Rockies. The mountain in the backdrop of this shot is Cathedral Formation, with the kicking horse river flowing below. Ive seen this river in different seasons and it looks magical wether it be sunny or snowy.
Lake Peyto in the morning sun. The sun was white low thus not enhancing the bright turquoise colours its famous for however it was the first time id seen the reflection in Lake Peyto.
Winter means gathering stockpiles of food, but a snack every now and then is necessary! This little red squirrel seemed content eating this pinecone in the forest canopy. This woodland is near Banff centre but holds quite a lot of wildlife, with the large amount of forest and flowing streams leading to lakes, moose frequent here and even beavers.
A pathway through the thick snow In Banff, Alberta. High in the mountains these pathways are covered by such thick snow which is quite difficult to hike through but the beauty makes up for it. We hiked up here after visiting Peyto lake.
Watching the sunrise over the Three Sisters mountain, there was beauty all around. I decided to walk a little downstream and came to this island that stood out. With the array of colours in the sky and highlighting the mountain tops, I was confident it would make for a good shot. The still waters gave the sharp, still reflection that made the image really stand out.
The Aurora dancing above the trees in the Canadian Rockies. The aurora was so strong it was laughing up the whole sky. The trees made for a perfect foreground silhouette. Every time I see the northern lights the experience is always magical.
This glacial lake is unique due to the visible roots and stumps of trees that once flourished here in the crystal clear waters. You can hike around this lovely lake and it's one of my cherished walks due to the mountains surrounding the lake and turquoise green waters. Johnson Lake is one of the quieter areas in Banff, Canada.
Hiking to the Big Beehive at Lake Louise means being greeted by views like this.. the hike to the summit is quite difficult due to the incline and consistent winding path. However, the view at the top is so worth it. This image is pretty close to the start of the hike. There’s a few openings in the trees where you can get a glimpse of Lake Louise. Higher elevations only intensifies the bright blue colour of this famous lake.
The scenic coastline of White Rock in Vancouver. I was on a road trip through North America and through Canada. This was my first stop in Canada and I was pleasantly surprised with the beauty of this town. Walking on the pier I spotted seals bobbing in and out of the water as the sun set before my eyes. As I watched, I saw the seabirds perfectly assembled along the rocks.
Lake Louise in Banff, is one of the most famous lakes in the world. People come from all over to see the beauty of this lake. It is famed for its turquoise lake and stunning surrounding mountains. In summer you can canoe on the lake, in winter you can ice skate on the lake! Ive taken a canoe out on the lake the first time I ever visited and it was a core memory.
Banff offers amazing hikes but hiking up to the Big Beehive with an elevation of 2,270m at Lake Louise was one of dreams. To be greeted with this view of the Rocky Mountains and the famous Lake Louise.
The Milky Way Galaxy, shining through the dark skies in Banff National Park. I took this image at Two Jack Lake. I used the trees as a silhouette for my shot. I was quite delighted when I managed to capture some shooting stars. The moon hadn't rose, which gave me the opportunity to capture the galactic core. This is my favourite astro shot to date.
Located on the Icefield Parkway, the Athabasca Glacier is part of the Columbia Glacier. You can get a special glacier bus and explore the breathtaking views. On this visit it was the first time id ever seen the Columbia Icefield with blue skies and sun. When standing on elevated ground the landscape looks so vast and untouched.
This image was captured in Baff at a viewpoint of Mt. Rundle. I managed to get an eerie vibe due to the cloud caped Rockies and the winter branches just in the right place. The Common Raven is native to Canada. They are curious birds and known as the largest perching bird reaching a length of 26inches.
A steep uphill incline always brings you to the best views, in this case, I was rewarded with the beautiful Grassi Lakes. Surrounded by snow amidst a snow storm, the colour shone through so brightly it looked unreal. Situated in Canmore, Alberta, this is one of the more popular walks. There have also been sightings of the elusive Cougar here due to the elevation being located near the Kananaskis Country. When I began embarking the journey to photograph this lake, the snow was very light but as I proceeded closer to the lake, gaining higher elevation, there was a great rush of snowfall that engulfed the landscape.
Sunwapta Falls located on the icefields parkway in Jasper National Park. These falls are fed by the Athabasca Glacier. I visit these falls most times I go to canada as they are just so idyllic with the little island in the middle of the falls.
